Keynote Speaker – Kristen Carlson


Kristin Carlson is the Director of Media at Green Mountain Power (GMP) and a former journalist. A native Vermonter, she grew up in Worcester and graduated from U-32 High School.  She studied journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, graduating in 1999.

 

After graduating, Carlson worked at WCAX-TV for over 14 years.  There, she was the Montpelier Bureau Chief and senior political reporter, co-hosted “The 30”, and hosted “You Can Quote Me.” While working at WCAX, Carlson won a number of awards for her reporting,  including the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award (2010) for excellence in broadcast journalism for her series entitled “Foreigners on the Farm” that exposed the importance of illegal labor in Vermont’s dairy industry.  She also won Edward R. Murrow Awards for her reporting on workplace harassment in the Vermont Agency of Transportation, Vermont Yankee, smoke detectors, and the Ferrisburg Grange arson.

 

She recently became Director of Media at GMP where she will work with customers and the media to communicate the work GMP is doing in Vermont.  GMP is a leader in Vermont, regionally, and nationally on finding innovative ways to use renewable energy and new technology to power our lives as a way to address climate change.
