Impact Statement:

We have successfully served 110 students, faculty, and staff members of Shady Grove Basic School in Kingston, Jamaica by holding a toy drive that collected 678 toys and playground equipment for the children. We plan to raise enough money to give the school brand new playground equipment and repaint their playground.

Workshop Description:

Our project is about how the societal standards that we all face in our daily lives can affect not only how we treat ourselves, but how we treat others. Our learning goal for those who come to our workshop is for them to walk away with a greater understanding of our society. Once they have this greater understanding, they can move on to have a greater understanding of themselves, unrelated to the tinted glass of our society’s view. Our hope is to build a sense of self worth in people. View our slides.

-Beat the opposing team by getting three correct answers which will hopefully make (if you are not blocked) a straight line in any direction.

-Rules:

  1. You only have one pass to change of problem/situation every time you play against a new team.
  2. Winners will compete against winners and losers against losers. Those who lose will continue to play although will not win a prize at the end as winners move up and more are eliminated.-
  3. Before answering, consult with your team members (only your team members) to see if they agree.
  4. The line cannot be blocked by the opposing team in order to win.
  5. In case of a tie, one last problem will be given to both teams. The team with the quickest, yet correct response will win the match.
  6. There will be three matches, each one lasting 8 minutes.

-Instructions:

  1. Create 8 teams with people from different schools for variety of ideas. (Sorted out by colors which will compete against each other in the 4 boards that we have on the classroom floor.
  2. We will paste 8 sheets of different colors, representing each team on the board. Here we will mark how many games they have won or lost.
  3. Teams 1 and 8 will compete against each other. 2 and 7, 3 and 6, 4 and 5.
  4. Each team will pick a representative to stand in each cell where they will take out of a bag a random scenario from the 10 path where they will be asked to find the solution.
  5. If the team comes up with an appropriate and viable solution, then they can stay and empower their cell. However, if they fail to do so, the other team will have the chance to respond correctly and take the cell for their own.
  6. The first team to form a line conformed by 3 consecutive cells in any direction will win and “classify” to the next round.
  7. This filter will continue to apply until the last two teams that are in the competition confront each other.
  8. The members of the winning team will earn the prize.

-Prize: Colombian souvenirs (8 in total depending on the amount of people on the winning team). If there are more than 8 people, the prize will be chocolatinas Jumbo.

#8 – School Design

American School of Tegucigalpa

Room B35

Education For All

Essential Question:

How can recycling textiles and clothes help our communities, our school, and the environment?

[su_tabs active=”1″][su_tab title=”Student Film”]

 [/su_tab] [su_tab title=”Impact Statement”]

By October 2016, we want to successfully serve one school, using old school uniforms and clothes and recycling them into pencil pouches, tote bags, bottle holders, shoe laces, backpacks and many more. By working as a team and asking for donations to our community, we will accomplish our goal of effectively organizing our school community and promoting textile recycling.

[/su_tab] [su_tab title=”Workshop Content”]

Our School Designs project consists of recycling school uniforms and clothes. We will collect donations from our school community. Then, we will convert the school uniforms and clothes into other products like tote bags, pencil pouches, hair bows, purses, etc. and donate them to schools with limited resources.. We will create a workshop in our school so students volunteer and they will create the products we will later donate. The problem we wanted to solve was that the children who attend low income schools don’t have bags and other school supplies.  This project also benefits the world due to its recycling component, which reduces pollution. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XKSBTqnAWWZECCq_7maUC79DptOOH2WWmd0MczmIZO8/edit?usp=sharing
