Student Presentation: Gender Equality

Preventing sexism is one of the biggest concerns of society nowadays. In a room filled with teenagers, two female Washington International School students stand up at the front of the class exploring this idea of equality. “It is not about favoring sexism, the main goal is to reach complete equilibrium between both sexes” says one of the student presenters. One by one, every person in the room says their personal thoughts about this topic. “Even if we are against gender inequality, laughing at a sexist joke or not doing anything when someone tells a sexist joke it’s not going to help. This has to stop”. After everyone had contributed to the conversation, the presenters played an interesting video for their audience. The clip showed the struggle of a man living in a feminist society. “Showing the men how difficult society could be for a woman and putting them in that place could actually make them change. Still, it is hard for them to experience our suffering”. Full of excitement, the presenters asked for everyone’s help and understanding. “We know that this is not a task that can be completed in one day. However, if everyone puts a little bit of their help we will be able to stop all these stereotypes”.
