What are the topics of the conference?

GIN Conferences, in general, focus on the 20 sustainability goals outlined in the book High Noon: 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve Them by Jean Francois Rischard. WAGIN also added its own goal: social and racial justice. In addition, we are incorporating the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals into this year’s conference.

This year, we’re using the theme of “Countdown to Crisis” to create a sense of urgency for addressing climate change and other global issues.

How should students prepare for the conference?

Each team of students will create and present their own workshop about a project they have been working on that addresses one or more of the 21 global issues or 17 UN SDGs. The workshop should address their goals, challenges, successes, and plans for the future. As part of their workshop and the film festival, students also have the option to create and submit a two minute video related to one or more of the global issues.

What is the film festival?

Students have the option to submit a 1-2 minute video related to one or more of the global issues. All films submitted will be shown during the conference. Possible options include: a public service announcement that informs about issues and inspires action, a documentary about action your team has taken towards solving a global problem, a narrative film that tells a story based around solving a social or environmental issue.
