Meeting of the Minds Meeting #2 Maggie Chumbly: How to Make a Plastic Free School 18:55-19:30 |
Teaching and Learning With Plastic Pollution: How do we integrate global values and student action into our teaching and learning communities?
After learning about the emerging environmental issue of plastic pollution and the great pacific garbage patch in our large group keynote address, let’s come together as educators to inquire further how these messages of environmental tragedy and global issues can be integrated into our teaching. Working with global educator Maggie Chumbley who directs the Plastic Free Campuses program for Plastic Pollution Coalition and the Education Collaborative for the Midway film project, we’ll share our stories and our foundational beliefs. Then, we’ll look into the components of building meaningful service learning and personal projects, hear stories of student work, and share our ideas on how taking on plastic pollution at your school can mean great teaching and learning.
