Essential Question:
How can we change the way our Middle School thinks about gender?
Impact Statement:
We will have successfully served 130 students by March 2017 using education (and more specific TBD strategies, resources, and methods) to accomplish our goal of educating our school community about gender stereotypes, gender roles, and problematic gender-based language. We (hope to) see a reduction in the frequency of gender-based insults, a greater understanding of inherent bias, and an increase in “upstander” behavior when problematic gender-based stereotyping or language occurs.

Essential Question:
How can we support children born with a cleft lip and palate?
Impact Statement:
Our mission is to collaborate with the international organization “Operation Smile” and help children born with a cleft lip and palate. Operation Smile is a non-profit organization that travels around the world providing surgeries to children born with a cleft palate or cleft lip in families in need. This year, we are supporting a few families with children with this condition. We are working together with Operation Smile and raising money for the surgeries, transportation, housing and other needs they might have during their stay in the hospital in Guadalajara.

What can we do to decrease the population of stray dogs?
Impact Statement:
Our mission is to raise awareness for the stray dogs in our city by supporting a local animal shelter. We have been raising money to pay for medicine and collecting supplies (food, toys, etc.). In addition, we are looking to find homes for these dogs.

We have successfully served over 100 young people in Trinidad using learning resources and materials such as textbooks and stationery, one-on-one teaching strategies, and kid-friendly methods to accomplish our goal of organizing an effective and empathetic learning community for 6 – 14 year olds.

Essential Question:
Are we making a difference in the conditions of life of an animal by promoting the sponsorship of animals living in a shelter?
Impact Statement:
We have successfully made 12 people take part of the sponsorship initiative that takes care of animals by March 2017 using resources we gained in a bake sale and bracelets that promoted the shelter. We used advertisement such as going from class to class in the whole primary, showing videos of the shelter in school´s assembly, and wrote articles in the school´s magazine. We did all of this to accomplish our goal of effectively recruit sponsors who will ultimately improve the animals´ life condition.

Essential Question:
How can we, high school students, offer a basic knowledge of English to those who need it, to open up opportunities and widen horizons for those who are illiterate in this language?
Impact Statement:
We have successfully served 13 maintenance and transport workers from Colegio Bolivar by March 8th by meeting with them once a week for the past 6 months to teach them a basic level of English in order for them to be able to communicate more effectively with those around them, feel more confident in certain environments at school.

What are the main causes and effects of the digital gap in rural schools?
Impact Statement:
We have successfully served 60 people by March using 15 computers we bought with money we fund raised and free educational program by teaching them the basics of computers and leaving them with desire towards technology. We have used easy but efficient programs that will leave them with clear knowledge of how they work and the teacher may use as a tool. They are fun to encourage kids to continue learning on their own and to have the kids after them be motivated and learn from them. Our project was carried out at the public school PioXII.

How can we change our community’s perspective on the use of contaminating material and stop its use completely?
Impact Statement:
We have successfully served the environment by implementing rules that stop the amount of styrofoam and reduce the amount of plastic. These rules encourage the use of alternatives rather than disposable plates for school events by sharing our ideas with club leaders and then with school authorities our plan was put in action and has been successful.

We have successfully served the whole school community by the current date using empathetic surveys; smart, approachable solutions and presentations; data collection and analyzation; and powerful methods such as the use of large scale media to raise awareness and spread our project goals and process, to accomplish our goal of effectively organizing the reduction of waste consumption (single-use plastic and paper) from our community.
