Impact Statement:
We have successfully served our school’s student and faculty population by informing them on the important issue of plastic pollution. We worked hard to inform our school’s population about how they can make choices to be better global citizens. For example, we changed all of our school’s plastic bottles in the vending machines to cans, we educated our student body about how plastic can harm their everyday life, and we observed how much plastic is being used everyday at our school. In GIN our main goal is to reduce our school’s plastic usage by 50% by the end of the year. Every day we are closer and closer to meeting this goal.

Building Bridges club teaches english to children in a poor area near the city of Managua, Nicaragua. By executing this project, students give these children a better English education and more diverse job opportunities to thrive in life. Impact Statement:
We plan to provide basic supplies for new mothers in Guatemala’s public hospitals; many of the hospitals do not even provide toilet paper or soap. Along with the organization “Semillas de Amor” we are working to meet these basic needs that are not met due to poor funding from the government and a lack of resources at the hospitals.

Students will present the process they went through to answer their essential question and carry out their impact statement. Workshop participants will help to create a hygiene bag that will be given to a new mom back in Guatemala City to help meet her basic needs while staying in the hospital.

Workshop Description:
For our project, we decided to carry out an activity that benefited Casa David, an organization dedicated to provide shelter to the relatives of patients of the public hospital, El Seguro Social, in our capital city, Tegucigalpa. The fundraiser chosen was a race, from which the profits enabled us fully equip this shelter’s kitchen, but also granted us an opportunity to create awareness of this cause and hopefully open more doors of opportunity and help towards this organization. We we able to do this through extensive planning, paying close attention to details, strategic marketing, commitment and strong teamwork.

We have successfully served 40 kids by 21/02/16 using soccer (soccer balls, cones, soccer fields, uniforms) resources, professional soccer strategies, and professional’s training’s methods to accomplish our goal of effectively organizing a much united community with Las Veredas Las Palmas.

Workshop Description:
One of the most effective ways to bring together communities is to find a common liking among those involved. In our case, we decided to use soccer to provide a sane environment to the kids so they can have a break from the concurrent problems in their communities and society. The kids we are receiving live in poor life conditions, and by providing this soccer foundation, they can escape from these issues, for two hours they enjoy the happiness and the harmony of the sport. There are other important reasons for which we have decided to start and form this project, including our love for this sport, and our motivation to make it keep going in as one of the big promoters of education and well-being in our society. It has been said, by many thinkers that one way to bring together a group of people is by having them share whatever it is they like. Therefore, we decided to find a common like, in this case soccer, to bring the community together, to find them alternatives and help them escape from their had society, preventing the kids from doing unhealthy activities.

We plan to serve our school community by implementing wind turbines to create renewable energy and that way, reduce carbon footprint and high-energy consumption which is one of the main causes of global warming. In addition, we plan to construct the wind turbine throughout this year using some recycled materials for the model.

Workshop Description:
Since the Industrial Revolution the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere has increased drastically over the years through the excessive burning of fossil fuels. The high accumulation of this gas in the air, along with other substances such as methane have caused the world’s temperatures to rise, destroying entire ecosystems, species becoming extinct, and altering the order of things. In addition, we are extracting more resources than the planet can regenerate in time such as oil, which is becoming scarce, making it a huge problem since we rely on it completely. In order to be able to preserve our world, repair the damage done and continue to thrive in this planet, humans must change their way of thinking. Our group believes that renewable energy like solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric energy are the future of the world. It is not only eco friendly, but it is also a solution for the constant need for energy. In this project, we aim to build a vertical wind turbine with recycled materials that will be later placed on top of a greenhouse at our school, in order for it to be self-sufficient. If the project succeeds, then we would like to expand the areas where the turbines are placed in order to lower the electrical consumption of our community.

Our GIN team intends to impact our city of Guadalajara, and hopefully other urban centers, by providing a model which raises the awareness and empathy of community members to people and places that have been neglected and/or abused by modern society. We have and will continue to mobilize interested community members, young and old, individuals and corporations, to bring this project to fruition. It is our goal to present a complete prototype to key community leaders, in addition to obtaining all necessary permits for public placement in 2016, with the hope of welcoming our first visitors by 2017.

At our school, our Environmental Club has and is organizing and initiating methods of reducing plastic waste in our community of 375 families through starting a plastic reduction drive and expanding awareness of the effects of plastic on marine life.

Workshop Description:
The amount of plastic that ISPS was producing as an environmentally conscious school was ridiculous, it was only a matter of time before something was done. The environmental club in our school, took it upon ourselves to do something about this. We came up with a project to reduce the amount of plastic within our school community. This project took off within months in many different steps. These include; talking to our director, cafeteria team, maintenance, business office, all teachers and students. The first step included coming up with a game plan, “How do we execute this?”. Then advertising, we produced a PowerPoint presentation proposal and an educational video which we then went on to present to our director, once we got our proposal approved we started promoting it around our school. The first action we took was creating a policy, the water bottle policy. The policy required that the Cafeteria terminate the sales of all water bottles. With the help of maintenance we increased the amount of refillable water cooler stations in our school. After this was taken care of, we encouraged all members of ISPS, staff and students, to bring their own reusable water bottles to school. We faced many challenges such as lack of cooperation and drive from staff and students. We came to realize that yes, it is easy to create a policy, but the real change is really a change in mind-set and that is the hardest thing for people to do.

Workshop Description:
We will be addressing the issue of Poverty in Panama and how we have tackled it by granting wishes to children with life-threatening conditions. Our point of view will be directed towards a different kind of poverty that involves, isolationism, and powerlessness. The experience has been tremendously gratifying for the families and for ourselves. We have been able to witness how a wish can give the families the hope of moving forward and bettering their own lives.
